An individual who spiked candy with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys both between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at the facility in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on recently.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a young boy.
The accused was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.
Ruben engaged in a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "for many years", and children had previously become sick the following morning.
She said the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had suspicions in summer 2025.
The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his family member had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.
"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor stated items including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She stated the man continued to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she added.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The legal representative said the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.
She stated the man then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five children.
