The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title since the Rome competition and initial on a hard court since that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has secured 21 victories at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was over.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early opportunities in a close third set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
